          Working on the design, development, and commercialization of task-shifting devices for rural Ethiopia. Funded through Saving Lives at Birth.

          Performing research into how design ethnography can be better utilized to design medical devices for low- and middle-income     countries using case studies and novice/expert studies.

          PI: Janet Ellzey    Explored potential for using sawmill waste as alternative energy source for low-resource settings. Characterized combustion and durability properties of sawdust briquettes to determine viability as energy source. Basis for undergraduate honors thesis.

          Atomistic simulations of biomimetic materials.
          PI: Markus Buehler    Determined the effect of structural characteristics on elasticity and strength of biologically inspired materials. Developed models of diatom shells (algae with rigid shell) and performed atomistic simulations.
